Her Side

I slept in a different room that night. The whole week had been thick with fog and you couldn’t even see the mountains. But sometime in the night, a wild wind blew through, even knocking over items on the patios. The hotel staff said they hadn’t seen anything like it in a long time. When I woke up around 7am, the fog was gone. Everything was crisp. The volcanoes were sharp and clear against the sky, like the weather had been waiting for that exact day to show up.

We started steam-cleaning dresses and unpacking makeup while the room slowly filled with the women in emerald robes. The hotel sent up celebration piña coladas. I handed out jade earrings to the bridesmaids and gave Kris, his mom, a jade bracelet I’d picked out for her.

I woke up around 8am and sat out on the patio for a while. It was quiet at first, just me and the view. One by one, the guys started showing up, no rush, no schedule or stress, just a relaxed and slow start to the day. Kendall was still with the girls but came over after they were done getting ready. Each of the crew said a few words before we kicked things off with a shot of tequila and a chaser.

The Venue

While everyone got ready across the property, Casa del Mundo was quietly being transformed. The team spent the morning threading string lights through the trees, setting out handwoven luggage tags as place cards (each one made by local Guatemalan artisans), and tucking tropical flowers into every corner. A small memory table was set near the entrance, with framed photos of loved ones who couldn’t be with us but were absolutely there in spirit. Every detail felt intentional—thoughtful, a little handmade, and full of heart. Just like the day itself.

We had our photographer capture the small details of our ceremony. Our rings, our vow books, the vintage glass vial I brought to hold a few drops of Lake Atitlán water from the morning of our ceremony. I wore custom Converse with Griffin stitched on the back so I could keep my mom’s wedding heels clean for the ceremony and through the adventures of the trip . My wedding necklace was handcrafted by a jade jeweler in Antigua. Our destination invites were custom passport-style booklets, and I lined each envelope with a photo of Casa del Mundo. We toasted with my parents’ wedding champagne cups and gifted my dad a set of cufflinks engraved with a message I wrote to him. We got the ladies of the trip some jade earrings as gifts and a jade bracelet for his mom. The groomsmen and our officiant, Chase, received wallets with a personalized engraving that Michael made.
